Doughnuts

  • Activate the Yeast:
    • In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and honey. Whisk together and let sit for about 15 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy.
  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and powdered milk.
    • Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients.
    • Knead the dough until it’s elastic and no longer sticky. Cover the dough and allow it to rise for 1 to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the Doughnuts:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Be sure it’s not too thin to keep your doughnuts from becoming flat.
    • Use a doughnut cutter to cut out circles, or if you don’t have one, use a small round cutter or bowl to create the outer shape, and a smaller one for the center hole. You can even use the mouth of a plastic bottle as an improvisation.
    • Let the shaped doughnuts rise for another 45 minutes.
  • Fry the Doughnuts:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
    • Remove the doughnuts from the oil and let them drain on paper towels.
  • Prepare the Vanilla Glaze:
    • In a bowl, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 30 ml of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
    • Whisk until smooth and well combined.
    • Drizzle the glaze over the warm doughnuts and add sprinkles for a fun garnish.
  • Prepare the Chocolate Glaze (Optional):
    • Use your favorite chocolate sauce or melt chocolate chips to make a simple glaze.
    • Drizzle over the doughnuts and top with more sprinkles if desired.
