Turmeric Ginger Beer
- Infuse the Syrup:
- Grate fresh ginger and turmeric.
- In a saucepan, combine the grated ginger, turmeric, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the spices infuse in the syrup as it cools to room temperature.
- Strain the Syrup:
- Strain the syrup first through a regular strainer, then through a fine-mesh tea strainer to remove all solids.
- Store the syrup in the refrigerator, where it will keep for several weeks.
- Mix the Drink:
- In an 8-ounce glass, measure 2 tablespoons of the infused syrup.
- Lightly crush the lemon peel and mint leaves with the back of a spoon to release their flavors.
- Squeeze the juice from one quarter of a lemon into the glass.
- Fill the glass with ice and top with soda water, stirring gently to combine.
